Barchester Healthcare Enlists Procure4 to Deliver Procurement Step Change
Procurement specialists Procure4 have won a contract to review all non-food procurement activity at Barchester Healthcare, one of the leading long-term care providers in the UK.
The contract will look at spend categories right across its UK operations with Procure4 developing new and sustainable supply chain solutions for the company. Procure4 has identified procurement savings of c£6M, to be delivered in the first year.
Chris Mullen, Procure4 said “With over 200 homes and 12,500 beds in the UK and more growth planned, the timing is opportune to enhance Barchester’s approach to strategic procurement in terms of people, process and systems to ensure that the best value possible can be achieved from goods and services budgets.”
Matt Oxley, Procurement Director, explains the importance of this programme. “At Barchester we put quality first in everything we do in order to continually improve our residents’ experience. The sector is faced with increased regulatory scrutiny, the impact of austerity measures and an increasingly elderly and frail resident profile; these present significant cost pressures to our business but this cannot be at the expense of quality of care and our residents’ experience. The savings unearthed by Procure4 are material and will be used to invest in our people and service to maintain our position as number one provider of high quality care.”
As the same time as delivering benefits, Procure4 will be working with Barchester to develop a new look procurement team within the company, implementing enhanced processes and systems to ensure that the new supply solutions can be managed effectively in future.
The win marks the 7th win for Procure4 in the healthcare sector having serviced both private and public sector businesses, recent projects have been concluded for Oxford Health NHS Trust, the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability and BMI Healthcare.
